8 Packing Hacks for Golfers

As seasoned travellers, we thought we'd share some of our top tips

1. Cabin bag sizes - different airlines have different allowances for cabin bag sizes, so check on their website and go for the optimum bag for the space, bearing in mind you need to be able to lift it into the overhead cabin store. We use an Aerolite bag - super light weight and we've even put it in the hold in the past, so quite durable too!

Sometimes we check our golf bags in and only take this one cabin bag for a two week holiday - be mindful of the liquids you carry on though!

2. Pack your shoes with smalls - got to say, I tend to carry spare underwear and flip flops in whichever bag I take on the plane as I've always got a backup in case my main bag doesn't come through, and can cool my feet down if we're in a hot country on arrival.  Packing your shoes with smalls uses up the odd little items that don't matter if it get's screwed up, and it helps keep the shape of the shoe too.

3. Rolling clothes helps keep them in reasonable good shape as well as using up any awkward gaps that inevitably appear in the suitcase.  Great for highly pattern items.

As you get towards to top of the suitcase, I tend to do fewer folds as these are things I don't want so creased up

4. Invest in a TSA lock - this is a small suitcase padlock that security, especially in the US, can unlock and get into your bag if they need to check it, but it means it isn't open to all and sundry to take a sneak peak!

5. I wrap a small towel woven in-between my clubs to protect the shafts from crashing against each other.  You've always got a decent sized towel for golf at the other end too - I use the waffle type towel. I've used a Sun Mountain Meridien golf travel bag for many years, and would highly recommend it.  You can get yours on Amazon or

6. Investing in a Pro-Tekt flight cover spine - or similar.  This is a small extendable hard top umbrella shaped devise which you can extend over your longest club in the bag for extra rigidity.

7. Might sound obvious, but using your golf bag head cover to keep everything in place is an easy thing to do.

8. OK, don't judge me but I take my bed pillow with me to most places I visit.  I use this to wrap around the clubs wherever it needs extra padding - beauty is a can also get a decent nights sleep when I get to wherever we're going too!
