Mauritius - Discover the North

Mauritius - Discovering the North

From stumbling across multiple un-crowded white sandy beaches to shopping in the Bazaar, from Kayaking in the mangroves to giant water lilies, the North part of Mauritius is waiting to be discovered.

The island of Mauritius isn’t huge, and navigating around is easy, with rarely a long journey ahead of you, wherever you end up.

Today, we’re showing the beautiful North.

A few hours with Yemaya Adventures Kayaking and exploring the mangroves, dip in the Indian Ocean and annoy the fish.  Enjoy a short break in Ile d’Ambre, where you can stretch your legs and walk around marvelling at the family who made pyres to warn ships off the shallow water reefs, to the deer satisfying the hunters, to now, in the present day, a place where endemic planting is going through a series of rejuvenation.

Wonder at the giant water lilies and 500 more species of plants at Sir Seewoosaga Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens.

Push the boat out and enjoy lunch at Chateau de Labourdonnaise, before returning to explore Grand Baie, an area for tourists, without being too touristy!  With beachside side shops, and the Grand Baie bazaar to wander around.

Cap Malheureux is famed for its distinctive red roof church, arguing with your senses with a riotous colour palette that just works in the bright sunshine.

Watch the kite surfers at Rivière du Rempart, from the air conditioning of your car if you wish - you can park that close to the beach!

North Mauritius has some spectacular beaches, from Mont Choisy, north and all in between - Take time to discover your favourite for its white sand and azure blue sea.

Don't forget to grab a fresh juice squeezed in front of your eyes, at the prolific beach side huts.
